Testimony given before special master Charles Warren in a suit brought by the United States against the state of Utah over ownership of the bed of the Colorado River. Much of the testimony was given by river runners, scientists and engineers, petroleum geologists, and placer miners. The testimony constitutes an extensive oral history of the men and women who utilized the Colorado River Basin in Utah prior to 1929. |

( On Oil ) the first trip ( he lie ) left Greenriver , Utah , and went overland down to the Fremont River and ran a line of levels , a fly line across , and worked the Fremont River down to the Colorado ; then kept right on working down the Colorado River . ( Pie He ) arrived at the ( Colorado Coloraclo ) River ( in ill ) July but he does not know what day . ( R . 1468-1469 . ) W . R . Chenoweth was the chief of the party ; a man named Clogston was cook ; a man by the name of Phelps was truck driver and his helper was ( named'Morgan namedMorgan ) ; Mr . Tom Wimmer was with them below there . He has ( forgotten orgotten ) the rest of the names . ( R . 1469 . ) ( On Oil ) that trip the one boat went from the Fremont River and worked to Bull Frog Creek which is above Lees Ferry and at the head of Glen Canyon [ Bull Frog Creek comes in approximately mile 120.4 above Lees ( Ferry-Plate FerryPlate ) 8 , ( Complainant's Complainants ) Exhibit No . 10 ] . ( R . 1469 . ) They were on the river all the time ; does not know the mileage , because he covered so much ( ter- ter ) ritory that year . ( R . 1470 . ) When he entered the Colorado River it was just about average water . They were working very slowly because had to work on the side ( canyon callyon ) doing topography up to ( thirty-nine thirtynine ) hundred feet elevation , so would ( work -work work ) as far from camp as they could , then would move camp .
