Show 884 as you go upstream , whereas it does have that effect at ( tunes times ) going downstream . . They were , aground a great deal in a ( sballow-draft sballowdraft ) boat , ( go- go ) ing up and down the Colorado River . When they became grounded they endeavored to shove off into deeper water . At times succeeded , at others had to push the boat several hundred feet , zigzag it across the stream and back and Straight ahead to get into deeper water . That was in the straight stretches . ( R . 1333 , 1334 . ) In all probability if ( he lie ) had been familiar with the channel he would have avoided a great deal of ( that -that that ) trouble . It was his opinion then , and always has been , that the trouble that they had in going downstream and ill coming upstream was due to shifting sands ; the channel was deeper ( coining comhig ) upstream . He made nonotes . ( R . 1334 . ) So far as he remembers he did not get stuck in any place coming upstream , where he had had no trouble going downstream . There were three or four places where lie had trouble coming downstream , but where lie ( had bad ) no trouble coming upstream . ( R . 1334 . ) The water flows quite swift in certain places , , the boat ( doesn't doesnt ) always obey the rudder , and in all probability they were carried in there by the shifting current . . ( R . . 13347 1335 . ) While he has no recollection of ( -the the ) specific places there probably were places Avhere he had encountered no difficulty going o ( down- down ) |
