Usually when they had a little higher water , ( why NIiy ) , it would cut the channel in the river ; ( and aud ) knock down their ditches ; they ( didn't didnt ) have ditches large enough to draw the suction through , so they had to clean that bar out and divert the river to get it down there and get it in their ditch . The water was cut down to a lower level so it ( wouldn't wouldnt -Nvouldn't Nvouldnt ) flow into ditches without some little dam . The scarcity of water was one of reasons for dam ( ; - ) it dried up so it ( didn't didnt ) run from one pool to the other ; it formed pools , but so dry it ( didn't didnt ) run from one to the other . He is running a trading post and has lived in the San Juan country since ( 1878 1-878 ) . He has not lived there continuously since that time . He is familiar with the San Juan River from Bloomfield , ( N"ew New New ) Mexico , to ( Zahn's Zahns ) Canyon , a distance of possibly fifteen or twenty miles below Mexican Hat . Goodrich , ( Utah 'Utah Utah ) , is about two and ( one-half onehalf ) miles below Mexican Hat on the San Juan River . ( R . 495-496 . ) |
