Testimony given before special master Charles Warren in a suit brought by the United States against the state of Utah over ownership of the bed of the Colorado River. Much of the testimony was given by river runners, scientists and engineers, petroleum geologists, and placer miners. The testimony constitutes an extensive oral history of the men and women who utilized the Colorado River Basin in Utah prior to 1929. |

Show He stayed at Lees Ferry 442 two or three weeks ( wait- wait ) ing for Major Powell to arrive , , but lie was so slow iii getting word to ( them tbeni ) that they decided to go out to Kanab to find out what the trouble was , so lie borrowed a saddle from Lee ( and aud ) rode to Kanab and found out about Major Powell and then ( re- re ) turned to Lees Ferry . Major Powell eventually came to Lees Ferry and brought supplies by wagon from Kanab over a wagon trail . The supplies originally came in overland to Kanab from Salt Lake City . The autumn of 1872 was spent in additional ( topo- topo ) graphic work and in about December they went to Kanab and put up some large tents and in these tents the map was drafted that he carried to Salt Lake City in February , 1873 . ( R . 1553 . ) In taking this map to Salt Lake City , Mr . Hiller the photographer , accompanied him . They went by saddle horse and had one pack mule on which they carried their blankets . They went over into what is now called Long Valley . It was winter and snowing . They camped in ( Grlendale Glendale ) and the next day continued on top of the divide . Neither of them had been over that particular road before and ( didn't didnt ) know where to go . They continued down into a valley and camped there and the next morning found a ranch owned by a man named Asa , continued on down the Sevier River to Panguitch and on down to Salt Lake City .
