Testimony given before special master Charles Warren in a suit brought by the United States against the state of Utah over ownership of the bed of the Colorado River. Much of the testimony was given by river runners, scientists and engineers, petroleum geologists, and placer miners. The testimony constitutes an extensive oral history of the men and women who utilized the Colorado River Basin in Utah prior to 1929. |

Show ( Number Xumber ) 15 is right down 191 from Goodrich ( showing- showing ) the formation Goodrich and Mexican Hat . It ( is 'is is ) all one little basin . Number 16 is the oil field north of the river from Goodrich showing the Blue Mountains and is ( typi typi- typi ) ¬ cal of that country . Number 17 shows the formation below ( Menden- Menden Menden-- Menden ) hall Goose Neck and was taken in fairly high water , " in the spring . Number 18 shows the Honaker Trail . He has been down over the trail and it was used to pack supplies to the placer miners . Number 19 is the Goodrich flat at Goodrich . Number 20 is a mud flat right below Goodrich . There is quick sand between Goodrich and the mouth of Gypsum . ( R . 695-696 . ) They placer mined there once and they placer mined all up and ( down clown ) the river at different times . Number 21 shows ice ( blocks block-s blocks ) . The picture was taken right where the bridge is at Goodrich . Number 22 shows his brother trying to cross the river right below Goodrich . ( R . 697 . ) Number 23 represents the San Juan River right at the Goodrich bridge and was taken about July of 1920 . The river at that time in that particular place was about ten feet wide . People were right on edge of water in river . Can step across it there . ( R . 697-698 . ) Right there it is only ten feet . When it gets up high , spring water there , it would be about fifty feet , forty feet ; something like that . Depth is ( knee-deep kneedeep ) there right now . ( R . 698 . ) |
