La fleur femelle a un calice fup6rieur, caduc, & i cinq dents ; une corolle fomblable i celle de la fleur mile , & un ovaire oblong , gr~le ou aminci vers fa bafe, & fitue fous la fleur. Lefryle qui s'cHeve dans la fleur. , efr part age a fon fommet en trois frigmates oblongs. Le fruit eft une efpece de baie charnue , oblongue, a une Oil trois loges, & qui renferme plu- 1ieurs femences comprimees. Ses feuilles font en creur , along6es en fer de lance , alfez fortement den tees en leurs bords, & portees fur des petioles qui fe · conteurnent un peu en vrille. Elles ont trois nervures principales qui regncnt dans leur longueur, & deux autres plus courtcs , qui fe ramifient vers les deux lobes de leur ba{e. Les fleurs font blanches, munics d'une frange capillairc. Les fmits font lilfes, ovales-ohlongs , & comme charges d'une longue corne, qui provient du tube du calice. Elle a unc odeur dcfagrcable. Sa dccoai~ n' prife avec du fucre' favorite ]a digefrion, calme les coliques & autres dou\eurs du ventre, & fait cvacuer les phlegmes qui genent la poi trine. Son f'uc cxprimc excite le vomilfement. ANG Les fleurs font blanches, en etoile , frangees comme celles de 1'.Anguine a trois nerfs' n°. 2' & naiflimt dans les aiffelles des feuillcs. lcs pcdoncules communs des fleurs males font filiformes' deux fois au moins plus longs que lcs fcuilles , & fourienncnt cinq a fept fleurs. Les tigcs de cette plan•e font des farmcns tresmenus, anguleux, verds, glabres, & munis de difrance en difrance) a des inrcrvalles d'environ deux pouces , de feuilles petites & alternes , avec des vrilles qui leur iont oppoiecs. Ces feuilles font prefque triangulaires , finuces , un pcu rudes au to~cher, venes , pademces de tres -petits points gnsiitres, longues d'un pouce , & foutenues chacune par un petiole aufli long qu'elles. Les fleurs font blanches, grandes , bien frangces, & ont les divifions de leur corolle ovales - arrondies. Les fruits iont turbines ' prefque fcmblables a ceux de la Melon gene ( Morelle), longs de quatre ou cinq ~ouces, fur environ un pouce & demi d'epailfeur, ldfes , & verdatres avec des raies longitudinales d'une couleur plus claire. Leur cl1air efr blanche & amere ; ils contienncnt quantitc -de femcnces ob1ongues & un peu ctroites. Chacunc d elles confifre en un calice d'une feule piece , divife profondcment en fix parties arrondies & concaves ; en huit etamines dont les filets font courts ' s'inferent fur lc receptacle de l'ovaire' ~ porten~ de~ antheres a deux loges ~ & en un ovatrc f~peneur , arrondi , charge d'un il:yle court , que termine un frigmate obtus. Le fruit n'efl: pas connu. Cet arbre cro1t dam~ les fon~ts de Ia Guiane, & fleurit au mois de Mai. Les habitan-s du Comte de Gene l'appcllent Bois de cedre. On en travaille lc bois pour faire des pyrogues , & on pretend que le tronc pourroi.t !ervir a faire des mars de navire. Aubl.
