Ccs fcmences ecrai;.!es ont l'odeur du gingembre, mais leur faveur efl: mediocre. Cette plante cro'lt au Malabar & dans Je Br61il , particulicrement dans Jes lieux couverrs. ( v. f. ) Elle m'a etc communiqucc par M. Sonnerat, & en all'ez bon etat , pour que J'aie pu m'aifurer par l'examen de fes 11curs, que c'cft une veritable efrcce d'Amome. Le Co [ius doux eft une petite racine jaune, qui reffembfe a!Iez par fa couleur ' fa figure & fa &roffttu,r) a la r>lciJlC de Curcumq, AMO Cos dercriptions ne convienRcnt pas , felon M.: Geoftroi, au Co flus dont on fe iert aujourcl'hui dans lcs boutiques des Apoticaircs ; car on y trouve plus cornmuncment une autre racine que tout le monde prend & emploie pour le Cojlu.s d'Arabie ou le vrai Co flus , & qui eft remarquable par ion odeur agreable qui reffemblc ~ cclle de l'Iris ou de la Violette. Franrois Dale, dans fa Pharma.cologie, croit, d'apres Commclin , que ce Co flus eft la racine de Tsjana-J{ua de Rheede, dont nous venons de faire l'expofition comme une v.Critable eipece d'Amome; & M. Linne, qui a adopte le iemiment de Commclin , a etabli pour la meme pl:uue ion genre du Co flus ; mais la dcfcription -Iu'il donne de ce g•:mre , ~ans ton Genera plantaru.m , P· 3 , ne convient nullemem a notre plante ; ce qui no us fait prefumer que cet illufrre Botanifl:e en avoit alors une autre fous lcs yeux, i laquelle il rap-portoit mal-a-propos le Tsjana-Kua du 1 ardin de Malabar. Chaq~e fleur conlifre en quatrc petits p6talcs arron~ts, . en ~lufieurs ctamines courtcs chargees d'anthcres punarr?s' & en un ovaire fupcrieur, muni d'un .ftyle Jaune.
