Ces petales ont chacun au moins trois pouces& demi de longueur; cc qui fait, ponr ]a lar~eur de Ia fleur tout-a-fait ouvertc, un diametre de fept pouces. Ces feuilles reffemblent un pcu :t celles des Narciifes. Cette helle plante Crolt naturellernent dans l'Am6rique meridionale' aux Antilles & a Cayenne: rzp. ( -v. v. ) EUe ne :tleurit qu'en Septembre, & quelquefois m~me en Oaobre. On la cultive dans les jardins pour la beaute de ies fleurs, qui y font un effet tres-agreable. On en trouve dans l'Hle de Gucrndey, ou I' on croit qu'elle y fut jetce, i1 y a plus d'un fi ecle' par quelque batiment qui pcrit fur la cote de cette , Ifle : ellc y efi: maimcnant fort com~ mune , & comme naturalifce. Dans les annce~ 01! l:t plante fleurit, elle pou!fc , vers le commencement de l'automnc, une hampc nuc, convexe d'un cote, applarie de !'autre , d'un verd rouge:hre, & haute d'un pied. Cettc hampe porte a ion {ommet une magnifique ombellc de fleurs rouges , qui na1t d'une fpathe bivalve, & forme' lorlqu 'elle e!l: etendue ' un bouquet . arrondi, bien garni , & tres - large. Les fleurs fon t petites, un pcu irregulicres, redre!fces, & environ trois fois plus courtes que leur pedoncule propre. Ses fleurs lont p6donculees ' campanulces' rcgulicres' plus ou moin:; inclinees , longues de pres de quatre pouces , d'une belle couleu r bl:tnche, & ~n outre rcmarquables par des ftt·ies ou raies pur.purines fort vives , les uncs placees dans la partie' moyeonc & intcrieure de chacon des pctalcs , &: lcs autres fi tuees extcrieurement.
