Je n'ai pas vu les fleurs : cUes font vraiiemblablcncnt en t~tes globulcufes, pedonculiks, & paroi[f( mt dans la figure qu'cn donne Rheede , diipofces, d'une maniere liche & en panicule peu garnie. Les fruits font des gouffes liffcs , d'un jaune rouge:' mc ou d'un rouge·brun, com.rrimces, longues de c1uatre pouces , larges de pres d'un pouce, & munics d'un rebord cl!!ve de chaq11c ci'>te & remarquable. Les p1hioles communs font epaifiis & comme coudcs i leur bafe, & portent ordina?rement une petite glande lituce ala jonCl:ion de b premiere pairc de pinnu~ les , ou quelquefois un peu plus bas. Les t1eurs tont blanches , un peu odorantes , & difpoii~es en t~tes globulcufcs de Ia groflcur d 'unc balle de fuiil. Ces boules de fleurs ont chacunc un pedoncule long d'un dcmi-pouce tout au plus, & font placces deux a deux ' & quelqucfois trois enfemble ' dans les dix ou douze aiffcllcs des feuilles qui font fimccs vcrs 1c iommet des rameaux. Chaque fleur a un calice long d'un tiers de ligne , cinq petales 6troits prefqu'une fois plus longs que le calice , droits & d'un verd blanch iitre, dix ctamincs routes fcrtiles , libres & unc fois plus longucs que lcs pctales ; enfin , un ovaire oblong dont le fl:ylc furpaffe un peu lcs ecamines en longueur. Le fruit eft unc gouffe m~s-applatie , longue de trois pouces ou un pen plus , large d'cnviron quatre !ignes, pointuc par les deux bouts, d'unc couleur brune , & contenant dix a douzc .temences planes & elliptiques. Ses ramcaux font anguleux & lcgerement vel us ; fes feuilles font grandcs , deux fois ailces , & compo1ces de vingt a vingt-quatre pinnules qui fouticnnent chacune trente a quarante paires de folioles ' petites ' oblongues ' ctroitcs' & fort rapprochees entr'eiles. Chaquc feuille a environ fept 3 dix pouces de longueur ; chaque pinnule eft longue de deux a trois pouces, & chaquc foliole efl: a peinc longue de deux Jigncs ; ce qui donne i CC'S feuilles Cjuclque reffemblance avec des feuilles de fougcrc. Jc ne connois point la fmCl:ification de cette efpcce, & j'en ai rapproche la plante f3 ~mple~cnt par prefomp.tion ; M. Linne n'ayant tndtque aucune figure nt aucun fynonime de cctte fliUlte. Selon la deicription court:e qt(j efr dans ACA 13 1'}/o1'tUS C!iffortianus , la plantc a a des goufie& applaties, de la longueur du doigt, de Ia largcur du poucc , & obtuics a leur fommet. Les flcurs font blanches , dc'candriques, & clifpolees en boulcs am~z gro1fes, ioutcnues par des pcdonculcs longs d 'un ponce ou un pcu plus. Ces pinnuks font longucs de deux pouces , peu difl:antes les unes des atltrcs , & portent chacune environ cinquante paircs de foliol cs petites' glabres ' ctroi~ tes & i pcinc d 'unc lignc de longueur. Lcs fleurs , que je n 'ai pas vues , mais fcul cmcnr leur pcdoncule commun' m'ont paru devoir etre diipofces en cpi lache & terminal. Lc fruit efl: une gou!fe un pen comprimcc , longue d'un poucc & demi, large de trois !ignes , & remarquable par nne aile longirudinalc ou un fcuillet dc..:urrcnt, fitue feulcmcnt le long de fon bord fup cricur. Cette gou!fe eft attachce a un pcdoncule pr9pre long d'un pouce. Cette efpcke crolt a l 'Hie de France ou dans l 'Inde. 1).
