Ellcs font portecs par des petioles rougdtres, ch arges de q uelques ghndes , & longs de deux pouces. Les fl eurs iont blanches , icff1les , dii'pofccs comme par bouquets fu r lcs rameaux , & paroiffcnt au pnntems annt le developpemi:mt des feuillcs. II leur iiiccede des fruits affez gros, un peu applatis ltlr les cotes, dont i.l chair cfr tendre, h~geremcnt p:iteu fe , & d'un g01~t mediocre , mais agrcable. L'amande qui efi r enfermee dans le noyau efi un peu amere. Lorfqu'on cultive cet arbre en plein vent, les fruits font moins gros, & m\lriffcnt un peu plus tard ; rnais ils ont un goih plus ag rcable 9.uc ceux du meme arbre cultive en efpalier. On fait, avec le fruit de l'abricotier, d'excellcntes confitures & 41e fort bonnes compotes. Abricot d'Hollande , ou .Amande-Avcline. L'arbre crui fournit ce tte varierc , porte des fe uilles dont la plupart iom plus tongues q ue larges; !on fruit' crui efr un des meilleurs, m(trit un peu aprc$ la mi-Juiller ; il efr petit , d 'un gm'lt rclevc & excellent ; & Lon amandc a un gm'lt d'aveline, & un arricre-goiit d'amande-douce fort agreable. 6. Ses fruits font fCfli.les, & furpafTent un peu en grom~ ur l'aveline ordinaire. Leur peau efr pube!cente ' jaune d'un cote ' & bien colorce de rouge de !'autre. Ils ont nne chair peu abondante, fibreufc , prclque feche, & d'un goih acerbe. Leur amande efr lcgcrement amche. Cet arbriffeau crolt en Siberie , dans les lieux montucux -r,. ADRUS , genre de plante dont on ne connolt encore qu'une eipecc, a laquelle M. Linne a donn6 le nom d'Abrus precatorius. C'efr l'Orobus Americanus , fruau coccineo , nignf macula notato, de M. de Tournef. , & !'Abrus frutex, de Rumph., qui en a donne une bonne figure au Vol. V. p. p. t.XXXII. de l'Hcrbier d'Amboine. On l'appelle Liane a regliffe en Americ1ue. Cc legume renferme trois a !i.x graines preique fpheriqucs ' lilies ' d'une couJeur ccarlate trcs-vive, & ayant pres de leur ombilic une tache orbiculaire d'un beau noir. Les graincs varient , & font quelquefois de couleur blanche. Certe plante cro1t dans 'les Iieux !ltblonncux & pierreux de !'Afrique & des deux Indes. l) . En Amerique on emploic fes tiges aux memes utagcs que ceux qu'on fait en France des racines de la regli!Ie ; & a Amboine , on regarde l'infu:fio~ thciforme de ies feuilles commc un fpecifique des maladies de Ia gorge ; enfin, on fe fen de ies graines en Africtue & en Afie , ioit en guifc de pois ' ioit comme ingredient dans les cementations dont on fait ul~ge pour conlolider les ouvr.tges d 'or que l'on fabrique dans ces pays.
