Scs fcuilles Jont ovalesoblongucs pointues , finemcnt dentces ou crenelees en leur~ bords , vertes en deftus , coconneuft.s & fort blanches en dc.lfous. Elles out , comme cellcs de l'efpece precedence, Ia nervure de leur furface fupcrieure muni~ de P,erites gl~ndcs o?l~~gucs , pointues & color:es ·, & de1,1x fi:1pules !mealres a 1a bafe de leur peuole. Les fleurs font blanches, difpofces en corymbes qui terminent les bra-nches & lcs p<i!tits rameaux des cotes ' & ont leur calicc & leurs pcdoncules cotonneux. Elle.s produilent de petites baies crui acquierent une COtlleur rouge en \ntirifi'ant. Cet arbl.'i!fcau cro1t d.ans la Virginie. Les flcurs font blanches, petites, & naif: fent fur des grappcs un peu ctroitcs' qui reflemblcnt a des cpis. Ces grafpes font munics de pctttes braCtccs line aires , colorees ,. caduques, & qui iont plus longues que les pedoncules proprcs de chaqnc fleur ice qui n'a point lieu dans l'e!pcce pnkcdcnte. Lcs pcrales font une fois plus courts que ceux de l'Amclanchier, & fes baics ior.t une tois plus grofTe:o crue les ficnncs ' c'efi:-a-dire ' om au moins 1a grofi~ur des fruits du Prunelier ou Prunier cpincux. Chac1ue fleur particulicre po!c fur un receptacle commun nud , & a une corolle monopetale infundibuliforme 1 irrcguliere , dont le limbe un pcu unilateral) cit a cinq dccoupures peu ~rofondes ; quatre etamines librcs' dont les anthcrcs font arrondies; & un ovaire infcrieur oblong, charge d'un .fi:yle fetacc , & termine par un fi:igmate multifide & lineaire. Le fruit efi: une femence nue , fans a:igrette , oblongue & a cinq angles. Les AJ.liones fe difi:inguent des Scabicufcs par leur fleur commune ' qui ne renferme crue trois fleurettes , & des Scabioielles , par leur calice comniun, qui ne forme point un tube cylindrique, & qui contient moins de cinq fl eurs. Cette efpece croit, comme la premiere' dans ! 'Amerique meridionale. J'en ai Yll un dcifin de M. Jofeph de Juffleu , qui l 'a auffi trouvc au Perou. ALLOPHILE de Ceylan, ALLOPHILUS Zeylanicus. Lin. C'cfi: un arbri.lfeau dont les rameaux font cylindriques, & qui porte des feuilles altcrnc:s, pct-iolees, ovales , poimues , lilies & veioeufes. Le fruit efi: une capCule oblongue, marquee de trois ftllons , & diviice interieurcment en trois loges polyfpermcs. Ces feuilk.1 font minces , peu charnues , foibles , longues de' trois pieds , larges de. trois pouces , vertes, bcrd~cs. de rouge de cha<.JUC cote dans tO.UteJeur Jongut'nr; & de petites dents lcgetement piquantes. D 'cnrre ces feuilles s'elcvent, dans divers endroits de leur faifceau, quelques pcdoncules nmeuJ< qui portent des fleurs purpurines difpofces en cpis llches & fCU garnis. Les corollcs font gt·~Ies , n'ont pas beaucoup plus d 'un pouce de longuem·; & les cramines ne !ont point fail! antes.
