La fleur a un calice fort petit & i qu~crc divifions plus ou moins aprare~tes , 'i~acrc p~tafcs u_n peu concaves, quaere ctamines nicrcesf~u .un petit 1·cbord qui cntoure l'ovaire , &: un ptlbl ~or~e par un ovaire {itpcrieur, arrond1 & char&'c d un frylc de Ia longueur des etamines , au 1ommet duquel efl: till fl:igmate ftm~!e· . . . Le fruit cfr unc baic ovo1dc, qut c.ont1ent une ou plufieurs femences arrondies ou anguleuf~s .. La difrin£tion particuliere de c~ gen_re ie me de la confidcration du nombre des divihons de la fleur; Ia corolle ctant en general de quatre pi.cccs , & lcs ctamines ou nombre de quaere. Outre cela, Ie fruit n'e11: nullement couronne , ni ombiliquc commc celui du lierre , & il eft charge d'une petite pointe' & a un petit collet a fa bafc; ce qui le difl:ingue de cclui des vignes. Les feuilles font arrondies en creur , terminccs par une pointe courte , prefqu'enricres, legcremcnt anguleu{es, fur-tout dans leur jcunefle, glabres en dcffus, & un peu cotonneufes en de!lous, principalement fur leurs nervures. Les pcdoncules font oppofcs aux feuilles , & fe partagent cllacun en trois branches, qui toutes trois fe foufilivifcnr encore deux fois de fuite P?ur ioutenir c\e petites fleurs qui fernblent difpofcc~ en corymbe. Ccs feuilles ont au moins cinq pouces de largcur, & font fourenues par des petioles longs de pres de trois pouce'l : ellcs fon(fort bien rendues dans la figure qu'cn donne Rhcedc ; ce qui me fait prcfumer que 1a plantc !3 n'cfl: point la m&me , ou n'en efi: qu'une varictc. Les vrilles iunt grandes, & naiffent J.l'oppofition des feuilles. Je n'ai point vu f.1. fmetification : felon Rhccde, les flcurs font petites , blanchitres , quadrifides, & ont un fryle, mais point d'etamines. I1 leur fucccdc des baics lifles. noires , monofpermes & fi.Icculcntes. Cette cfpcce lcroit-elle dio'ique ? On la trouve dans l'Inde & a Madagafcar 1 dans les bois.
