Genus erat pugnæ militum illorum, vt magno impetu primo <N=10>procurrerent, audacter locum caperent, ordines suos non magnopere ser- varent, rari dispersique pugnarent: si premerentur, pedem referre, & loco excedere non turpe existimarent, cum Lusitanis, reliquisque bar- baris genere quodam pugnæ assuefacti: quod fere fit, quibus quisque in locis miles inveteraverit, vti multum earum regionum consuetudine <N=15>moveatur. Hæc tamen ratio nostros perturbat insuetos hujus generis pu- gnæ. Ab oppido autem declivis locus tenui fastigio vergebat in longitudinem passuum circiter CD. Hac nostris erat receptus; quod eo, incitati stu- dio, inconsultius processerant. Hoc pugnabatur loco, & propter angu- <N=35>stias iniquo, & quod sub ipsis radicibus montis constiterant, vt nullum frustra telum in eos mitteretur: tamen virtute & patientia nitebantur, atque omnia vuluera sustinebant.
