Sed Pompeius suis prædixerat, vt Cæsaris impetum exciperent, neve se loco moverent; 2 aciemque ejus distrahi paterentur. <N=5>3 Idque admonitu C. Triarii fecisse dicebatur, vt primus excursus visque militum infringeretur; aciesque distenderetur; atque suis ordinibus disposi- tis dispersos adorirentur: levius quoque casura pila sperabat, in loco reten- tis militibus, quam si ipsi immissis telis occurrissent. Simul fore, vt, du- plicato cursu, Cæsaris milites exanimarentur, & lassitudine conficerentur. <N=10>Quod nobis quidem nulla ratione factum a Pompeio videtur: propterea quod est quædam animi incitatio atque alacritas naturaliter innata om- nibus, quæ studio pugnæ incenditur. Sed nostri milites dato signo, quum a infestis pilis procucurrissent, atque animadvertissent non concurri a Pompeianis, vsu periti, ac superioribus pugnis exercitati, sua sponte cursum represserunt, & ad medium fere spatium constiterunt, ne consumptis viribus appropinquarent; parvoque intermisso temporis spatio, <N=20>ac rursus renovato cursu, pila miserunt; celeriterque, vt erat præceptum a Cæsare, gladios strinxerunt. Neque vero Pompeiani huic rei defuerunt. Nam & tela missa exceperunt, & impetum legionum tulerunt, & ordi- nes conservaverunt; pilisque missis ad gladios redierunt. Eodem tempore <N=25>equites a sinistro Pompeii cornu, vt erat imperatum, vniversi procucur- rerunt: omnisque multitudo sagittariorum se prosudit: quorum impe- tum |
