Britanniæ pars interior ab iis incolitur, quos natos in insula ipsa memoria proditum dicunt: maritima pars ab iis, qui prædæ ac belli infe- rendi caussa 1 ex Belgio transierant: qui omnes fere iis nominibus civi- tatum appellantur, quibus orti ex civitatibus eo pervenerunt, & 2 bello <N=5>illato ibi remanserunt, atque agros colere cœperunt. Hominum est infi- nita multitudo, creberrimaque ædificia fere Gallicis consimilia: pecoris magnus numerus: 3 vtuntur aut æreo, aut taleis ferreis ad certum pondus examinatis pro nummo. 4 Nascitur ibi plumbum album in mediterraneis regionibus: in maritimis ferrum, sed ejus exigua est copia: ære vtuntur <N=10>importato. Materia cujusque generis, vt in Gallia est, præter fagum atque abietem. Leporem & gallinam, & anserem gustare, fas non putant. Hæc tamen alunt animi voluptatisque caussa. Loca sunt temperatiora quam in <N=XIII.>Gallia, 5 remissioribus frigoribus. 6 Insula natura triquetra, cujus vnum latus est contra Galliam: hujus lateris alter angulus, qui est ad 7 Cantium, <N=15>quo fere ex Gallia naves appelluntur, ad orientem solem, inferior ad me- ridiem spectat. 8 Hoc latus tenet circiter millia passuum D: alterum vergit ad Hispaniam, atque occidentem solem, qua ex parte est 9 Hibernia, di- midio minor, vt existimatur, quam Britannia; sed pari spatio transmissus, atque ex Gallia est in Britanniam.
