Quorum pars proximas nacta naves multitudine hominum atque onere depressa est: pars resistens & dubitans, quid esset capiendum consilii, ab Alexandrinis interfecta est: nonnulli feliciore exitu expeditas ad ancoram <N=5>naves consecuti incolumes discesserunt: 1 pauci allevati scutis, & animo <N=XXI.>ad conandum nixi, ad proxima navigia adnatarunt. Cæsar, quoad potuit, cohortando suos ad pontem & munitiones contendere, eodem in periculo versatus est: postquam vniversos cedere animadvertit, in suum navigium se recepit. Quo multitudo hominum insecuta quum irrumpe- <N=10>ret, neque administrandi neque repellendi a terra facultas daretur; fore, quod accidit, suspicatus, sese ex navigio ejecit, atque ad eas, quæ lon- gius constiterant, 2 naves adnatavit. Hinc suis laborantibus subsidio sca- phas mittens, nonnullos conservavit. Navigium quidem ejus multitudine depressum militum, vna cum hominibus interiit. Hoc prælio desiderati <N=15>sunt ex eo numero legionariorum militum circiter CD, & paullo vltra eum numerum classiarii & remiges. Alexandrini eo loco castellum ma- gnis munitionibus, multisque tormentis consirmaverunt, atque, 3 egestis <N=XXII.>ex mari lapidibus, libere sunt vsi postea ad mittenda navigia. Hoc de- trimento milites nostri tantum absuerunt vt perturbarentur, vt incensi <N=20>potius atque incitati magnas accessiones fecerint in operibus hostium ex- pugnandis, in præliis quotidianis, quandocumque fors obtulerat procur- rentibus & erumpentibus Alexandrinis 4* manum comprehendi multum operibus, & ardentibus studiis militum nec divulgata Cæsaris cohortatio subsequi legionum aut laborem, aut pugnandi poterat cnpiditatem: vt <N=25>magis deterrendi & continendi a periculosissimis essent dimicationibus, <N=XXIII.>quam incitandi ad pugnandum.
