The root confifis of a multitude of long, thick, white fibres : the radical leaves ftand in clufiers, fu rrounding one another at the bafe; they are narrow, long, pointed at the end, of a bright green, and fiand ereCt. The fialk is round, fmooth, fucculent, and grows to a foot high, fingle and ihait; at it's top fl:ands a kind of fpike of flowers, which are large .and fnow-white. It is a native of the Pyren;Eans ; we have it in our gardens, where it grows larger, ~nd va ries [o much, that it has been made into two or three other fpecies. C. Bauhine calls it, Phalangium parvo flare, non ramofum ; Ray, Phalangium pulchrius, non tamofum. 2. Anthericum foliis planis, corollis planis deciduis. The root is compofed of a multitude of thick fibres, white, and fweeti(h to the tafte : the radical leaves are narrow, and a foot, or more, in length; they lie flat on the ground : the fralk is two feet, or more, in height, very fiender, round, fmooth, and fucculent ; the flowers fiand on the feveral branches it divides itfelf into; at the top, they are large, and of a fine fnow-white. It is a native of Germany. C. Bauhine calls it, Phalangium parvo flore ramofum. The other more fin gular fpecies are, r. The great, lily-flowered Anthericum, called great Spider-wort. 2. This genus comprehends the Liliohyacynthus of Tournefort, and the Hyacynthus Stellar-is of Ray and others. I . Scilla radice tunicata. 'The tunicated-rooted Scilla.
