A I couldn't say exactly; as I stated, it was twenty or twenty- five miles below Bluff, somewhere between Bluff and where the canyon boxes up. I don't know anything about that country at all only just what I was told. Q The place you spent the night was in open country, was it? A Right in open country, yes; as I remember it, the low banks right close down to the San Juan, because we got water out of the San Juan to use for domestic purposes. Q Was it after dark when you arrived there? A I think we got there in the afternoon. Q Do you have a clear recollection about that? A Yes, I am pretty sure we got there in the afternoon. Q Didn't make any investigation of any kind? A I did not; I think the engineers checked it over, to see what there was to it; I was just a hired man. Q You were the cook of the party? A Cooking for the party, -- cooking and guiding. Q What time of the year was it? A In December and January; we went down in December, came out in January. Q Was this in January or December that you spent this night on the San Juan? |
