Show 3896 Edwards- D 1917 A 1893; this was all in 1893. BY THE SPECIAL MASTER: Q Them this boat which you say was abandoned in 1901 -- A It ought to be 1891. BY MR. BLACKMAR: Q That boat was known as the Major Powell? A Yes. Q How large a boat was it? A That boat was about thirty- five feet long, I judge, about eight foot beam. BY THE SPECIAL MASTER: Q How long? A Thirty- five feet, a bout eight fest beam, and had an upright boiler with two six- horse engines connected to twin screws. BY MR. BLACKMAR: Q How much draft? A I think about -- I should judge about eighteen inches; it was skeet boat. Q what condition was that boat when you leased it? A well, it had been laying there for a year or more. I came over to Greenriver and got a small boat at Greenriver and came down to Wheelers in February, -- either the latter part of February or the first of March, and I came part way by water and part way by ice; the river was still frozen over up there at that time. |
