A In the State of Michigan. Q Did you continue to live there for some time? A Until I was between twelve and thirteen years old. Q Generally in your early life have you been accustomed to handling boats? A Yes sir. Q What character of boats? A Row boats principally. Q Canoes? A Canoes and row boats; afterwards I have handled sloops on Lake Erie, and to some extent motor boats. Q And also operated on river, too? A Yes sir. Q Mr. Stone, when did you first become interested in the Colorado river? A Well, many years ago I got hold of a copy of Major Powell's book; I believe the title of it is, " The Colorado River of the West", and I read that; I was very much interested in some of the pictures that were published in that book, notably, for instance, the picture showing the wreck at |
