Show 3769 Stone- D 1790 A Either one of the Hites? Q yes. A John Hite was not at the place where they lived, at Dandy crossing. I found Fred Gibbons there; John was over in White canyon, doing some assessment work. But I saw Cass Hite a little lower down; we went over to call on him; I knew him very well. Q Was a post office maintained at Hite, Utah, when you went through? A There was at that time, and we got some mail there. BY THE SPECIAL MASTER: Q What had happened to the placer claims in between your two trips? A They were abandoned; they were not productive enough to justify working them. BY MR. BLACKMAR: Q Did you meet Bert loper in there at that time? A We met him on that trip, yes sir, about half way -- or somewhere about the middle of Glen canyon; he was on the east side, pulling his boat up stream by a line. Q Had there been any mining machinery brought in to Glen canyon that you saw? A There had been that dredge that Stanton brought in there. |
