Show 3884 Edwards- D 1905 July? A Well, maybe it was the 10th of July; I couldn't tell, because I didn't keep any notes on that, while I have them, I think, in some other form; I think it was about the 10th of July. Q What equipment did this party have? A We had two boats, practically the same as the Stanton expedition. Q Perhaps you better give me the size of those boats, if you can. A They were twenty- two feet long, four and a half foot beam, thirty- two inches deep, keel boats, air- tight compartments; water- tight compartments in the hatches -- for the supplies. Q Will you describe the progress of that expedition from Greenriver down to the mouth of the Green river? A We left Greenriver, I think in the morning, and dropped down about five mile to what is called the Devil's Auger; quite rough at that stage of water. From there on down to the mouth of the San Rafael, or what was known at that time as Wheeler's ranch, there are riffles, but that country is mostly of a rocky formation, the river bed was mostly of a rock formation, boulders and rocks all through the channel. Q Did your party encounter any difficulty in that twenty- five miles? |
