Show 3895 Edwards- D 1916 A Must be one hundred -- I think we figured about two hundred and fifty miles, something like that, from Lees Ferry to the railroad. Q Mr. Edwards, when was the next trip you made down the Colorado? A In the spring of ' 93 -- 1893. Q Who was in charge of that party? A I was. Q And what was the purpose of the party? A Well, we thought there was a lot of tourists would like to see the Colorado river from the upper end, and I had recently been down in that country, and we figured out possibly we could operate a boat from Greenriver down to the junction of the two rivers, and take tourists down there, so we organized a little company in Denver and went over there; the previous year, I think in 1901, some parties from Salt Lake and Rawlins, Wyoming, had shipped a steam launch in there from Chicago, which they launched and ran down as far as Wheeler's ranch; there they abandoned it; we leased that boat, and then made an attempt to see what we could do with the river. BY THE SPECIAL MASTER: Q This was in 1903? A Yes, the spring of 1903 BY MR. FARNSWORTH: Q 1903? |
