Q At what points did you encounter difficulties, and what difficulties? A Well, the first difficulty was in Red canyon, which Didn't amount to much; my boat ran on a rock, that is, part way on it, but didn't take me over two minutes to get off of it; then at a place called Ashley Falls, in running that rapid I accidently broke one car- lock, but got through all right. Thereafter, after repairing it by putting in a new car- lock, we went on our way until we got to Alhambra, Utah, where we tied up and went over to Vernal for supplies. Q How far is Vernal from the river? A About fifteen or sixteen miles, as I recall it. Q how did you make the trip from the river over to Vernal? A A friend of Galloway's came down with an automobile, and took us to Vernal. A Had you arranged that prior to the time of going in there? A Galloway had, yes sir.
