A Those are five- foot contours of the water surface; at that time the survey was made, from one contour -- one of those short contours to the next is a five- foot fall in the stream. Q On each side of the map appear some numbers and circles. What are those? A Mileage index above Lees Ferry along the center of the stream. BY THE SPECIAL MASTER: Q That is ascertained by traverse? A Yes; we make the map, then we simply step off a mile, and two miles, and so forth, and simply draw this out so we can correlate the profile of the stream with the plan of the river. BY MR. BLACKMAR: Q I notice at Lees Ferry are the letters " B. M.", after that, " 3148". What does that mean? A That is a bench mark, a permanent bench mark along |
