Q Was it just left that way, that you would make a cache near the mouth of the San Juan? A I would have to go back to my instructions to tell you where that cache was to be located. Q Have you anyway of identifying the place in the river at which you turned around to come back to this spring? A You mean the spring in the river? Q The place at which you turned back. A We turned back at the mouth of Warm creek. Q Was there any rapid or riffle at Warm creek at that time? A At the mouth of Warm creek, no. Q Was the water difficult water as compared with the water you had been going over? A No, it was pretty good water at the mouth of Warm creek. Q Your boat was working all right when you turned around to come back, was it? A It was working, but it wasn't working successfully. Q You were going up stream all right? A Yes, but we were tugging a lot on that line. Q But the conditions with respect to navigation had been quite as favorable for some little distance back and at the time you quit as they were down below this spring? |
