Show 3879 Edwards- D 1900 A Yes sir. BY MR. BLACKMAR: Q Mr. Edwards, do you remember at what point Mr. Stanton picked up his survey line? A I had an idea it was about half way, something like half way between the Tickaboo bar and Lees Ferry. The line had been run down, as I understand it , to Dandy crossing or a little below there, the year before. Q Do you recall whether or not you were stuck on the sand bars several times? A Yes sir. That lower river is more of a gravel bar, gravel and sand too, but a good deal of gravel, fine gravel. Q What method did you adopt to get off of those bars? A Get out of the boats and push them along, or take them back and hunt for another place; something take a shovel and stir up the gravel with the sand and let the current wash us through. Q Do you remember on instance of going overboard with a shovel? A Yes, I remember the instance where that dike is across there, or stone ledge, whatever it is, I didn't go across; one of the other men took a shovel and crossed it, waded clear across the river to see if he could find an opening for our boats to go through.
