Show 3877 Edward- D 1898 A After we got our boats loaded we dropped down to Hite; at that time Mr. Hite was there, Cass Hite; and from there we dropped down to what is called Tickaboo bar, where Mr. Stanton met some parties from Omaha that were in there investigating placer mines. Q Between Crescent creek and Tickaboo bar did you have any difficulty in the operation of the boats? A We got hung up on a riffle right at Hite's, and had to get out and push the boats off. Q In that space in the river are you able to tell how many different times the boats were stuck? A No, I don't believe I could. Forty years is a long, long time, and while I can remember lots of the incidents, I don't think I could tell you all; but I know we were on the bar quite a good deal in there, especially further down. Q That is below Tickaboo bar? A Yes, below Tickaboo bar. Q By the way, what capacity did you go long on that expedition? A My capacity? Q Yes. A Boat man and assistant cook. Q Had you had any experience prior to that time as a boat man? |
