Show 3885 Edwards- D 1906 A No, nothing but what we got around, all right; we shipped lots of water in that Devil's Auger; I think we jammed one boat a little on one of the rocks, lower down between that and San Rafael, but we had a little higher stage of water, we had just about a medium, what we call a medium stage; the water had gone down, but still it wasn't low water; I think we estimated about ten feet higher in the lower reaches of the canyon, that is, way down, than it had been the previous trip. Q In the stretch of the river down to the mouth of the San Rafael did you have any groundings of the boat? A Have any what? Q Groundings. A No sir. Q Had plenty of water? A Oh, groundings? Oh, yes, we had some groundings; I thought you said drownings. Yes, we grounded some, but not very bad that time. Q From the mouth of the San Rafael down to through Labyrinth and Stillwater canyon, tell me the progress of the trip down through there. A After we got to wheeler's ranch, the next morning we decided it wouldn't be safe; we were loaded with provisions to last us to Lees Ferry; next morning we decided it would not be safe to take all those provisions through Cataract |
