Show 3883 Edward- D 1904 any. BY THE SPECIAL MASTER: Q When you say the lower part of the canyon -- A Below Lees Ferry in the Grand Canyon. Q Was this expedition intending to go down through -- A Intending to go clear through, the same as Stanton. Q Stanton did not go way through, did he? A Yes sir; went to side water; the gulf of California. Q Did you to through? A Yes sir. MR. BLACKMAR: I think that survey that was offered in evidence here shows the railroad ran clear down. BY THE SPECIAL MASTER: Q And they made the survey all the way down? A It was just a recognizance, more of a photograph survey from Lees Ferry on. BY MR. BLACKMAR: Q Didn't he run the lines? A No lines after we left Lees Ferry, just simply a recognizance, with the photographers taking the views, to show the characteristics of the canyon. Q Do you recall the date the Best expedition left Greenriver, Utah? A It was some time about, -- I think about the 14th of July, somewhere along there.
