Show 3828 Gerdine- D 1849 Q At what point? A In the Colorado river country? Q Yes. A I went in from Flagstaff, across the Painted desert to Lees Ferry. Q When you arrived at Lees Ferry, then where did you go? A I went up stream in a boat built by the southern California Edison Company, ascended the stream, then went by horseback over the mesa. Q How for up stream did you go in that boat? A About twenty- eight miles, to the mouth of warm creek. Q Is the mouth of Warm creek in the state of Utah or the state of Arizona? A My recollection is that it is just inside the state of Utah; the map shows it approximately on the line; may be five hundred feet inside the state of Utah. Q What kind of boat was this? A Flat bottom scow with flared bow and stern -- no, the stern was not flared; no slope on either side; my impression was it pointed a little at the bow; square sides, and had a barrel structure in the stern of the boat to enclose the propeller. Do you want a description of that boat? Q Yes. A It was propelled by a marine engine, and that engine was tied up to a shaft; the shaft propelled the screw.
