Show 3775 Stone- C 1796 Hole- in- the- Rock? A Yes, further down, sir. That company located practically all the gravel and sand in Glen canyon. BY MR. FARNSWORTH: Q I merely asked the question on because I understood you on direct to state in answer to the question as to what use these boats of Mr. Stanton were put, to say that they were used to cross the river and to take supplies down the river, and that in those cases they would be brought back up empty. A I didn't see any boats go down the river to those lower parties with supplies. I only knew of one boat having been brought back up stream and surveying, locating these placer claims. Q Do you know from what point that boat was brought that you now refer to? A I presume it was brought from Lees Ferry. Q Were there any of your men, your company's men, working above the place you made your headquarters? A They were working there with a churn drill, trying to locate the bed rock in a particular part of Glen canyon, with a view afterwards -- I think Stanton's view was to so design a dredge that it could work down to bed rock later on. Q Were there any men working above Trachyte creek? A Not far above that camp, no sir, possibly half a mile |
