A Well, there were the usual daily experience, with more or less turbulent water existing; in Lodore canyon there it is somewhat wild in there, and to a lesser extent in Whirlpool canyon, which immediately follows Lodore, and also to some extend in Split Mountain canyon. Then Through Consits Valley, there the river is very quiescent for over one hundred miles through that valley until you strike resolation canyon. Q In that valley did you encounter any Sandbars? A Yes, wherever the declevity of the river bed is low, is not sleep, there we always found sandbars to a greater or lesser extent, sand or mud bars. BY THE SPECIAL MASTER: Q Did you find the sandbars more frequent where the river was at a high speed, or where it was at a low speed? A The sandbars were more frequent, sir where the river had a low speed, The transport power of water is a function of its velocity. THE SPECIAL MASTER: We seen to have some different opinions on that from other witnesses. That is why I asked you. A Yes sir. And again that term " speed" has to be qualified.
