Show JAN i 4 1980 Shepherd was born in England to William and Mary Ann T. Shepherd. They had joined the •"'.:' Mormon Church in 1849 and they came to America in 1877 and settled in .Paris, Idaho. Shep herd married Emily Mary Phipps in 1877. Shepherd was a political leader in Idaho. He was the clerk of the Idaho District Court, a member of the territorial legislature and the chief clerk of the legislature. In 1897 he moved to Salt Lake where he worked as a bookkeeper for Dinwoodey Furniture and ZCMI. He was a member of the high council in the Ensign Stake and a Sunday School Superintendent in the Second Ward for twenty years. He also directed Church choirs. Shepherd died in 1945. His widow continued to live in the house until her death in 1953. She was born in England on November 20, 1853 to William and Emma Thoroughgood Phipps. She came to the United States in 1877. She married William Nathaniel Budge Shepherd in 1877 in Idaho. They moved to Salt Lake in 1897. Mrs. Shepherd was a convert to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She died in 1952. A daughter Mrs. Josephine Shepherd Edwards, then lived in the house. She was a saleswoman at ZCMI. She lived in the house until 1969. The house was converted into apartments in 1970. |
