Show 3821 Priest- D 1842 BY THE SPECIAL MASTER: Q Won't you explain that a little further, for the purpose of the record, what you mean by that? Won't you explain what you mean by that? A On the lower river we have an annual summer flood, melting snows; in the upper reaches of the Colorado river the investigation work was started in this year 1914 with the idea in view of surveying reservoir sites and dam sites that would store this excess water, or the summer run- off from the melting snow, to control these floods. Q This Bluff dam site on the San Juan was for the partial purpose of controlling that degree of the flood that came down the San Juan into the Colorado; is that it? A It was. Q The general purpose of these dam sites was similar to the purpose of the Boulder dam? A Yes sir. Q That is, storage? A Storage. Q I mean the proposed Boulder project. A There is no irrigable area on the San Juan below this dam site that I know of; I think it is all in the canyons from there down. Q There is an irrigable area above the dam site, is there not? |
