Show 3823 Priest- D 1844 CROSS EXAMINATION BY MR. FARNSWORTH: Q When you speak of irrigable land below the dam site, you mean below the site of the dam itself? A Yes. Q If this dam should have been built, the water backed up for forty miles-- would you say it would be? A Approximately. Q For forty miles, there would be a considerable acreage that would be adjacent to that forty- mile strip or that would be accessible from that forty- mile strip, to water? A For irrigation? Q Isn't that true? A I believe not, although you widen out into a valley and bluff there, the sides of the San Juan valley are precipi-tous, and you would really submerge with the dam site all the irrigable area in that vicinity, and I don't believe the surrounding country could be developed for irrigation by pumping, and it is poor soil. Q In other words, there is no way of getting the water out to lands lying north or south? A No. Q That is, from that point? There are some other sites elsewhere? |
