Show SOUTH SALT LAKE - Mayor Jim Davis: South Sale Lake is concerned about maintaining a competitive position. All the land is already · used; its ability to expand is through annexation. _State and federal governments are cutting back on grants making it hard for a private city to do economic development. As the urban community expands the costs of fire, police water and sewer expenses rise. South Salt Lake needs a strong business district. concern of Midvale is the development of the 1ight rai 1 system as oppposed to a monorai 1. MURRAY - Acting Mayor Wendell Coombs: The issues which most concern Murray are transportati on along the Wasatch Front, the state passing legislation that the city must implement but from which the state derives all the fiscal remuneration, recycling including development of nationwide markets, water sources, emergency preparedness, environmental concerns relating to power and finally, the acquisition of land and development. WEST JORDAN - Mayor Ken Miller: Transportation is the major issue being addressed by West Jordan. The completion of the West Valley Highway and Jordan River Boulevard is vital and funding is an important part of the completion plan. West Jordan is opposed to using sales tax funding for the light rail system as it is presently proposed and wants to see the widening of 90th south (a state road) from the Jordan River to the West Valley Highway. RIVERTON - Mayor James_Warr: The most critical issues for Riverton are paying for increased costs of services with a static base, transportati on and road conditions, road revenues from the state sales tax, and economic development. SANDY - Mayor Larry Smith: Economic development is the most important issue facing Sandy. The area does not have the economic base to support the services that need to be provided to the citizens. Sandy does have the potential of being the commerce center in the southern valley.- Transportation and roads are also of concern to the area. WEST VALLEY CITY - Mayor Brent Anderson: Public safety is the greatest concern for West Valley City, especially the growth of gangs throughout the valley and the destruction being done. Also the lack of funds to provide the services citizens demand. The withdrawl of federal revenue sharing has hurt all cities and towns which are looking for ways to increase revenue in an acceptable way. Legislators don't SOUTH JORDAN - City Manager Richard Warne: The most immediate needs of South Jordan are adequate revenue sources for meeting the demands for services. The legislature tells communities what revenue sources it may use but it continues to erode these sources or demands the community provide more services without providing the funding.
