Show PRESIDENT'S LETTER . / During this time of the year, with elections just around the corner, League is challenged by the many aspects of voter services we are asked to provide. Registering voters, proposing timely questions for candidate debates, compiling the Voters Guide to be distributed by the newspaper, attending and cosponsoring candidate forums, and answering the election phone in the office are just a few of the activities being handled by several dedicated League members. Colleen Carnahan, Lyla Fuller and Jo Stottern have been spending many hours assuring that League meets its commitment to local voters. Help is still needed, so if you have a few spare hours this month, please call the League office at 272-8683 to volunteer. As you know, League is opposed to Tax Initiatives A and B which will be on the November ballot. There are newsletters, flyers, and bumper stickers available in the League office. Although public opinion polls seem to indicate that support for the tax limitations is decreasing, more public education needs to be done. There is still time to distribute information to members of other groups you belong · to, talk to relatives, friends, and neighbors, or post a flyer in a public place. Please do what you can. America has always depended on citizen action to make a difference. And the League of Women Voters is one of the most respected citizen activist organizations in America today. Because of all of you this tradition will continue in Utah and all around the Nation. STEPHANIE NEW VISA CARD AVAILABLE LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS-US has made arrangements with Investors Savings Bank of Richmond, Virginia to provide a VISA card which directly benefits the League. A rebate on each purchase charged goes back to LWV-US plus a one-time credit of $3 per local League member obtaining this card goes to our local League. This VISA card is free for the first year and has the new LWV logo on the front. If you are interested in supporting League by getting yet another credit card, please call Sandy at the League office for an application. The response to the LWV VISA Card Campaign by Leagues across the country has been tremendous! Many Leagues need more applications because the response has been so great. The bank has agreed to print more soon. CAROLYN LEUTHOLD of the Columbia-Boone County, Missouri League was the lucky winner of the $500 of free credit on the new LWV VISA Card, drawn from all the LWV VISA Card applicants at Convention '88. She is also the LWV VISA Card Campaign contact person for her League. Carolyn comments: Winning the $500.00 on my new L WV VISA was wonderful/ Of course, I'm sold on the League, so it was just natural for me to apply for it right then and there at the Convention. This LWV VISA is a way to vote for the League :.._ it promotes the League locally and contributes to LWVUSI It's even a great way to introduce the League to store personnel. As if that weren't enough, the benefits are better than my current card/ Salt Lake Voter -1- November 1988 |
