Show STATE AND LOCAL PROGRAM MAKING FOR 1989-90 Each year, the Salt Lake League of Women Voters decides on a program for the coming year. Local program item studies in past years become League positions when consensus is reached, and these remain part of the League program as long as they are reaffirmed at Annual Meetings. A review of the current program is attached and will be discussed at our January unit meetings, along with the Legislative Update. We need member input to decide whether to drop any of our current positions, whether there are some positions on which we would like current information (usually means a new or updated study) and what new program items we want to undertake for next year. These program items will be evaluated by the Board, and presented to all members at the Annual Meeting in April for final approval and adoption. Items not recommended by the Board may be developed into proposals and be presented to the annual meeting for consideration as not recommended items. State program will be adopted at State Convention, usually in May, and will be for a two-year period. The Salt Lake League needs to make recommendations for state program to the State Board prior to Convention in May. Please go through each item with your unit, and decide whether to retain or drop each program item for both state and local program. If you have comments about priority items or areas of emphasis, be sure the scribe submits the comments using complete sentences, not just phrases that may be misinterpreted by the Board. Signify if the suggestion is for action, study or both. If you have ideas for items to study, please suggest them. If you, or if you know of another Leaguer, who would like to help with a study on a particular issue, please let us know. Many times items float to the top of the priority list because we have the womanpower to accomplish them. At the Holiday Tea, Norma Matheson spoke about League Program, and the following suggestions have been made: State Program Action: Education for the US political process for K-12 grade.
