Show 3696 Clark- D 1718 Q What difficulty did you have with the whirlpools in there? A In Glen canyon, below cataracts? Q Yes. BY MR. FARNSWORTH: Q What canyon did you say ? A Glen canyon. The difficulty would be, if a man would get into these whirlpools, lots of times it would turn your boat around and start whirling on it, you would try to check it; by the time you got it checked, it would catch you and whirl you the other way, so you had quite a bit of difficulty, quite an effort to get out of these whirlpools. Q Did you encounter any rapids in Glen canyon. A No sir. Q Or riffles? A There was riffles, but not what I would call a rapid. Q What do you call a rapid, and what do you call a riffle? A A riffle, I would call it water that is not very swift, that is going over a shallow place, and a rapid was a place where the water was very swift and the river has quite a drop there, and full of large boulders. Q Can you tell me how many days it took you to come through Cataract canyon? |
