Show 3625 Wetherill- RD 1647 Q Yes. A There is two miles of the bank about from half to three- quarters of a mile back from the river that you can go along; then at Zahn's camp there is a mile and a half that you can work back and forth until you get out into the canyon below; you can't follow the river direct any place along there, not along the banks of the river itself. Q Up around Recompense, what kind of stretch have you in there? A That is another stretch, a little canyon coming in, you have to work back and forth; around; you can't get down to the river only in a few spots along there. At the time, in 1906, there was corn fields, what we called the Piute corn fields, that went out in the flood in 1911; then you could get along the river if you could get through the young cottonwood growth along there. BY THE SPECIAL MASTER: Q What do you mean, " went out"? swept out by the floods? A Swept out by the floods. BY MR. BLOCKMAR: Q How large a ranch did Turner have, about how many acres? A At a guess, there was seventy acres, about seventy acres. |
