A He was conducting an expedition for the government, exploring expedition, and he arrived at Green river and crossed it at what has since been called Gunnison crossing; Gunnison cross-ing was the great highway, Indian highway across the river at that place; all the trails converged to that place, because they couldn't cross it further down, except at the crossing of the Fathers. And Gunnison crossed there, and he went west; he was killed by the Gossi Utes over on the Sevier, I think it was, and for that reason they call this crossing Gunnison crossing, as a memorial. BY THE SPECIAL MASTER: Q What year was that? A I don't recall that year; about 1850, somewhere around there. Q Had not been any town before that there?
