BLACKMAR: Q This road that is known as the old Mormon trail, that ran down to Hole- in- the- Rock, did that come in contact any place with the San Juan river? A It came in contact with the San Juan at the mouth of Comb wash; that is the last time it came in contact with the river until it got to the Colorado; didn't contact with the San Juan any more. Q In traveling to various points on the river where these placer mines were, would you run your pack train down this Mormon trail and cut in some places and come into the San Juan river? A Go down the Mormon trail to the mouth of Comb wash, then go over Lime ridge and over on to Lime creek and down Lime creek to the river; Lime creek empties into the river about three miles above Mexican Hat; that is where the opera-tions mostly were, along in the canyon between Comb wash and Mexican Hat, and also below Mexican Hat, down in the river for ten or fifteen miles; and later on there was an outfit |
