Show 3588 Wetherill- D 1610 A I never heard of it. It may be marked on there as Recompense camp, or Piute Farms. BY MR. BLACKMAR: Q Have you ever had occasion to observe whether the San Juan river carries a lot of sediment in it, sand and sed-iment? A Yes. I suppose the sand waves would mean sand in the Bottom; and down at what we call Johns camps, on the San Juan, the river bed has raised ten feet in the last few years, the bottom of the river has raised up; the sand will be shifted from one side to the other; the bottom will be taken out; it will be shifted and put right on the other side, whole masses of sand at one time. Q Have you had occasion to observe the effect of the summer storms on the San Juan river? A The summer storms are usually what causes this shifting of the bottom from one side to the other side of the river. The river usually runs very heavy in mud. The different streams will bring in a different kind of mud down the river; that mud will be deposited in one place, which causes the different coloring in the different sands, at different times; you will see that in quite a few places. Q Have you had occasion to observe whether or not there are any rapids in the San Juan river between Bluff and its mouth? |
