Show 3640 Mrs. Wetherill- D 1662 Q Have you ever been further down the river than Bluff? A I have been down as far as Navajo mountain. Q How many times have you been down to the Navajo mountain? A I have been there five or six times? Q And just what kind of -- how did you get down there? What kind of conveyance did you use? A The last time I went to Navajo mountain I went in a car. The other times I have gone horseback, with a pack outfit. Q Do you recall when you made the first trip down there? A To what place? Q To Navajo mountain, what year it was. A About 1910. Q In making that trip to Navajo mountain is it necessary to cross the San Juan river at any place? A No, it is not necessary to cross the San Juan river, no, only you go down to Nokai along the San Juan river on the south side as you go from Oljato to Navajo mountain. Q In the course of that trip are you frequently in sight of the San Juan river? A Yes, frequently in sight, not all the time, just along the banks, the mouth of Nokai, then climb up on to the rim at what we call the Corkscrew, then you don't see it any more until you get back to that point again. |
