Show 3672 Hyde- D 1694 -- I worked for them a while -- the man that was in charge was a man by the name of Lasher; I think it was the Recompense Company, I believe that is what they called themselves; they were located right near the mouth of Moonlight canyon, did a little placer work in there; I think it was more of a stock jobbing proposition than anything else, though; I was these with them two or three months. Then the Zahn did some work down below, quite a lot of work, put in a lot of machinery. BY THE SPECIAL MASTER: Q How many men in all should you think were in there placer mining, just roughly speaking? A I don't think there was over twenty- five men at any one time, with the exception of the first boom; they just went in and went out again; found there was nothing special there for them, and they went out. MR. FARNSWORTH: We move to strike the answer of the witness as to what they found. THE SPECIAL MASTER: That may go out; that is not responsive. BY MR. BLACKMAR: Q In what capacity were you working down there for this mining company? A I was a foreman. Q How many men were working down there? |
