Show 3653 Cotton- D 1675 A No; I have seen it the past fifteen years off and on. Q Prior to that time had you seen any part of the San Juan river? A No, I hadn't; it was a very, very bad road there at that time, a hard way of traveling; very few people came in from the San Juan river; not very many; but there was some came with apples and other produce, loaded up with merchandise to take back to that country. BLACKMAR: Q This first trading post that you had, what year was that established, the one down on the reservation? A That was established by somebody else in about 1877. Q When did you go there? A In 1885, I think. One man says it was 1884; I tried to figure him out of it, but I couldn't. Q How far was that trading post from the San Juan river? A Seventy miles, probably. Q From what point did you get your supplies when you were running that trading post? A From Albuquerque to start with. Q They came in overland? |
