A Settled about two miles up the San Juan river from the mouth of the Montezuma wash; my father opened up in this trading post there. Q How long did you continue to live at Montezuma? A I think only about two and a half or three years. Q And from there where did you move? A Out of comb wash, back down the river. Q What was the reason for moving from Montezuma down there? A The river out bottoms all out there where we were living, and took our little cultivated land away and washed it on down the river, and we had to get out. Q After you went down to the mouth of the Comb wash, what did your father do down there? A Continued to trade with the Indians. Q And, generally, from then on, that did you do? A Well, I helped there in the store, at the trading post; than we run live stock in that country, too, both sheep and cattle. Q And did you personally look after the cattle?
