A No, I am not recall the number; in the middle stretch they were so continuous, everybody would make a different enumeration of the rapids; every stage of water makes them different. Sometimes what might be two or three rapids at a higher stage of water would be one long rapid. Q As I recall, Mr. Dellenbaugh, in your book, A Canyon Voyage, you recite there were sixty- two rapids in Cataract canyon. A Canyon Voyage was made from notes written by you when? A At the time, and also checked up by other diaries of the men. Q So that if the book recites sixty- two, that is correct? A Just about correct. As I said, each man would count a different number of rapids, because they ran so close together. In passing through Glen canyon did you encounter any rapids? A Yes, there is one rapid just below the mouth of San Juan, but above that the water had been rather low, we encountered ledges running across the river, and the boats would ground on those ledges, and we would have to get out and wade alongside and lift then over.
