Show 3677 Hyde- D 1699 to Durango? A The store at the mouth of Comb wash? Q Yes. A Probably one hundred and fifty miles. Q I mean, how long did it take you to make that trip? A Took about fifteen days. Q That is, fifteen days for a round trip? A Yes sir. Q Mr. Hyde, is there a good deal of loose sand in the country west of Bluff, Utah, in and about the San Juan? A Yes, there is lots of loose sand there. Q What effect does the wind have on that sand with reference to storing it in the washes? A Just raises it in the wind and blows first one way and then another, fills all those little gulches, those little side gulches; I don't mean deep canyons, but little, small side gulches that run into the San Juan, river, I have seen it fill them practically level with sand from the wind storms blowing. Q What effect fo the heavy rains have upon that condition? A The heavy rains cuts that sand and silt all out and dumps it in the river. Q Well, now, that filling and washing out, has that been going on ever since you have been familiar with the country? |
